OpenMBTA App Reviews

4 stars

Great app! It has helped me many times. The only thing I would change is that ETB (Electric Trolley Bus) routes have their own catagory.

Good app, great initiative, smart usability.

Keep it up.

Disappointed

I would have given this five stars until recently. Ive used this app for a long time and have found it to be quite reliable. Lately they are not updating the train schedules and this makes it not usable. I have to find a new resource and I am bummed.

Idiots

Ads cover the function buttons. Fix it.

Useless now

MBTA commuter rail schedules changed 5/23/16, but this app has not updated by June 1, over a week. Makes it totally useless, so I assume no one is minding the store. Too bad.

Latest update stinks

With the latest update Open MBTA has made its most useful feature useless. It now has the annoying AdChoices integrated and you can longer choose your bus stop easily to find how close to on time it is. A once great five star app is now a 1.5 star app. Which is too bad because Moovit is no good alternative

What happened!

Ads now cover buttons, cant view schedules or change views.

Dont be fooled

This update is to place ads into the app. The app is now buggy and useless. It quits suddenly in random places. When you try to get a list of routes, a blank screen appears instead. And the function button is covered by the ads. Too bad.

New adds dont allow to switch to time table

App worked fine before adds. Youd login and select your train. Once selected it would default to map view and you were allowed to switch to time table. Now with add at bottom of the app it covers up the option to see time table - not very helpful any longer.

Need schedules back

The new ad integration blocks ability to switch to schedule view. Useless if planning a trip more than 30 minutes into future.

App is currently ruined

Took a good app and made it useless by placing ads that cover important buttons at the bottom of the page. Please fix this or this app will remain unusable.

Can you move the ads please?

Seriously, I love this app. Ive tried all the Boston public transit apps and this is my favorite. Can you please move the ads out of the way of the actual functional buttons of the app so I can go back to seeing a bus schedule? Because without that its pretty close to useless.

Open MBTA is great!

Its very accurate and Ive been using this app since it first came out. Realtime and scheduled info is great

Features missing in action

T Alerts -- the feature I use most -- stopped being updated as of 10/11/16. Tweets #mbta feature has never functioned for me. Is anyone on the development team paying attention?

Horrible app

For some reason this app says all 4 and 5 buses are no longer running. All the time. What a joke. Deleting this POS immediately.

Would be nice if it was accurate

Its nicely written and easy to use but bears no reflection on actual bus/train times. There appears to be no actual realtime data actually going on. Its very frustrating to be told by it that a bus will come at a certain time and when that time comes have it simply move to the next scheduled bus time regardless of the fact nothing actually arrived. It is useful for route maps and commuter rail schedules but you could just use the MBTA website for that.

What happened to real times?!

Used to swear by this app but it suddenly stopped giving real time info and only gives scheduled bus times now for several weeks- what happened?! Scheduled times are of no real use since the bus is mostly off schedule! Bring back real time info!

Used to love this app

I swore by this app. Got many friends to use it. So Id like to say thank you for making it. But in the last month it no longer gives accurate times for the routes in my area (89 and 101). Please fix it and Id be happy to change my rating to 5 stars

Good but could be great

This app does a very good job, but there are three things that could transform it into greatness: 1. Better distinction for Ashmont and Braintree lines when getting southbound info at JFK stations and north. I know the data is separated this way. If you are headed to Kendall, for example, its important to know whether the next train is an Ashmont or Braintree train in order to know if you need to run. It would be especially great to be able to bookmark just the Ashmont line in order to clear out the distraction of the other trains. 2. Display of realtime and schedule time at the station. Right now it shows one or the other. At stations close to the end of the line headed inbound this means either one realtime time or 3 scheduled times. Why not always show 3? If there arent enough realtime times available, fill in with scheduled times. 3. Enable auto refresh. You dont have to refresh to location every time. Refresh the location once, then refresh the realtime every 10 seconds. Maybe a button to refresh the location if needed.

Okay but what about the green line?

This app is pretty good for buses and for the red line but it doesnt have the branches of the green line so if youre at, say, park st, and you need a specific branch, you cant specify- it just tells you whats coming next. Very annoying.
